In Time and Space, experience the story of the two titular beings, Time and Space, and learn about how this fictional universe first came to be. As you read, you’ll be presented with moments where you may progress in one of several ways, affecting the ending of the story. Once you reach one ending, you may start again, unlocking a “skip” feature to progress past already-seen text. See if you can find all ten endings!

Time and Space is an interactive creation myth, told from the perspective of Time, the first being to exist. Time later meets Space, where the two must navigate their differences and determine how to manage the universe. The story features ten unique endings, based on the choices the player makes. However, only one of these is considered the “true” ending, and as such is the real beginning of the fictional universe that many of my original characters exist in.

Time and Space was made using Twine, an HTML-based tool for making interactive stories. This story was made in the Harlowe story format and additionally uses the Harlowe Audio Library to add music that changes depending on the mood of the story. It also takes advantage of Twine’s CSS and JavaScript capabilities to implement features such as a working sidebar, a skip feature, and a stylized display of previous passages.

This project was made foremost to tell a compelling and interesting story, while including interactivity and other effects besides text to immerse the player. Time and Space balances the line between story and game by relying mostly on text, but it still leverages colors and sound to aid in the storytelling. The game doesn’t feature any images, but its many other elements help players bring the story to life in their minds.

Click highlighted links to advance to the next portion of text. Clicking different links may lead to different endings! Use the sidebar to control volume, restart the current playthough, or reset all unlocked endings.
